What are you reading this month?

Jonah Pike·

I am trying a rule of one book in the house and one book in the bag. The house book is a slow history of harbors. The bag book is a slim novel I can finish on a train.

Curious what is actually open on your desk, not what you think you should be reading. Title, why you picked it, and whether it is surviving contact with real life.

On the desk: a water-stained paperback of The Living Mountain. I picked it because I wanted a book that does not hurry. It is surviving. I read four pages and then look out the window, which I think is the point.

That is a perfect review. Four pages and a window. I may steal the method.

Bag book: a collection of letters between two architects. House book: a soil manual I am pretending is literature. The letters are winning.

I am rereading a maritime weather log from 1891. It is all wind direction and the mood of the cook. Strangely modern.
