Does anyone else still keep a paper notebook?
I have tried every notes app that promised to make thinking frictionless. They all made me a filing clerk of my own half-ideas.
A cheap lined notebook does the opposite. It is slow. I skip pages. I draw boxes around problems I cannot yet name. When I reread last winter I can see the weather of my attention.
I am not making a purity argument. I still keep receipts in a spreadsheet. I want to know who else is writing by hand, and what the notebook is for — work, walks, a child''s questions, a garden.
